The great spring break balancing act: being productive with time to chill

Ah, Spring Break – a time of cherry blossoms and bustling tourists in the metro DC area. Y’all are here. I see you! LOL. While some jet off on adventures and others revel in relaxation (I see you, too – your social media posts make me jealous!), as a stay-at-home-mom, my Spring Break is a delicate dance of productivity and self-care.

To be honest, it doesn’t look that much different from my day to day except for having my teacher husband home all day. It’s nice to have the extra set of hands as we navigate the ups and downs of parenting. At the same time, it also throws off our day to day routine just a bit. But hey, no complaints here – I’ll take the extra help any day!

So, during this “break,” I strive to find time to be both productive and indulge in a little extra downtime. Being productive is actually a form of self-care for me because it lightens the load of my to-do list, leaving a bit more space for joy and relaxation.

And while I may not have hours to spare for Netflix binges or leisurely lounging, I try to carve out intentional moments for (non-productive) self-care. Whether it’s a quick tap dance session or stealing away with a good book, taking a moment for myself rejuvenates my spirit and reminds me of the importance of slowing down.

In the end, Spring Break isn’t just about escaping routine, but about finding balance and joy in the everyday moments. Or that’s the goal at least. 🙂

How do you plan to spend your break in a way that’s good for you?

Do what makes you happy.
