Boy, has it been a crazy two weeks. I know most of y’all can relate. This time of year has a special way of sneaking up on us, no matter how much we plan or how many reminders we set. December chaos? Nailed it.
My calendar recently decided to play a fun game called “How Many Things Can We Fit Into One Week?” Spoiler alert: the answer was “a lot.” Between dress rehearsals and performances with various youth choirs, and cramming for my CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) exam, I had very little downtime. Picture me juggling sheet music in one hand, flashcards in the other, and a coffee mug permanently glued to my lips.
It would’ve been so easy to tumble headfirst into overwhelm. Trust me, I had plenty of invitations to that party. But instead, I gave myself a pep talk, “You’ve got this.” “Take it one step at a time.” Or in this case, one page, one chapter, one measure at a time.
So that’s what I did. I’d work through a task, take a quick break—stretch, breathe, maybe do a lap around the house then back at it. By breaking things into manageable chunks, I found focus and flow without the overwhelm monster taking over.
And guess what? It worked! The performances went off without a hitch, I passed my CPT exam (woohoo!), and my body promptly decided to reward me with… a cold. Or maybe it was my husband’s early holiday gift to me. Either way, germs arrived, and rest became non-negotiable. The universe really knows how to drive a point home.
So what’s the takeaway here? This season may feel like a whirlwind, but you can tackle it—bit by bit. Focus on what needs to get done, but don’t forget to take care of yourself along the way. Those little breaks? They’re not distractions; they’re fuel for your sanity.
As we head into the home stretch of the year, let’s remember this humorous little gem:
“Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle.”
So here’s your call to action: Take that day, or even just a moment. Stretch, breathe, rest. Then plug back in and crush those goals. You’ve got this!
