Fresh starts, new beginnings, every day

It’s been a minute since I’ve written. I have some long time readers who have noticed. LOL. Thank you for that.

Life. Life gets in the way, right? And then summer comes and goes. And all the things. And now it’s the start of another school year. As a teacher, I feel like the beginning of the school year is the start of something new. Kind of like New Year’s or a birthday, but in a different way. I do some reflecting, thinking about what I want my upcoming year to look like, or even the rest of the calendar year. It’s the start of new activities, new routines, new schedules.

The Rosenberg household has experienced a lot of changes. My husband started a new job at a new school which means our day starts earlier and he gets home sooner (all good things, just different). My now two year-old son is very verbal and walking and running and super silly and we just started potty training … a very different vibe then a few short months ago. I also started my own new school year as I work on finishing up my online Master’s degree. So there’s that.

With all of that in the forefront, I have been doing a lot of reflecting. What are my goals? What do I want my day to look like? What do I want to learn? How do I want to rekindle relationships and friendships that have fallen by the wayside? How do I take care of myself? And most importantly, how do I want to feel?

That is not at all a narcissistic question. Because making sure I tend to myself and doing all the things that make me feel good results in making me a better human in the world. A better wife. A better mother. A better daughter. A better sister. A better friend.

For me that looks like going to the gym (I recently joined Burn Boot Camp which I love!), going for a walk alone in the morning, taking some time to meditate before I start the day, making sure I carve out time to do things I enjoy while my son naps (like reading and tap dancing).

You don’t need the start of a new year or new school year or birthday or other significant time to ask that question. How do you want to feel? What do you want to accomplish? You can start again today. Every day.
