“Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” This is something that has been on my mind quite a bit of late. And I’m not just talking about surviving the summer heat. It’s about those moments that push you beyond your cozy comfort zone and help you grow in ways you never thought possible.
I most recently heard this during my Burn Boot Camp training. Sure, it applies to grueling workouts, but it also stretches into every corner of life. As a trainer, I’ve faced plenty of awkward moments recently — whether it’s my own flubs while training a camp, pushing members to their limits when they really want you to go away or convincing them to sign up for a membership. Talk about stepping out of my comfort zone!
But the real test? Being a mom to a toddler. Every day brings a new set of uncomfortable situations: handling tantrums, enforcing boundaries, and resisting the urge to cave in for the sake of short-term peace. And then there are those uncomfortable conversations with adults—spouses, coworkers, you name it. It’s tempting to dodge these tough moments, but let’s be real—they’ll just come back to haunt you later. So why not dive in and embrace the discomfort head-on?
No, it’s not fun. It’s definitely not my jam or even close to a favorite place to be. But it’s worth it. Life isn’t always comfortable, and that’s okay. The real growth happens in those uncomfortable spaces.
So, next time you find yourself in an awkward or tough situation, remember:
“All growth starts at the end of your comfort zone.”
~Tony Robbins
