Things have been a little wild, haven’t they? Between the constant news cycle—trying to stay informed without losing our sanity—and this time change that has all of us, kids and adults alike, walking around like confused zombies, it’s a lot.
And yet, we keep going. We wake up, tackle the day, care for our families, move our bodies (or at least think about it), and do our best to feed our souls in the process. Some days, that’s easier said than done. The grogginess, the never-ending to-do list, the feeling of just trying to make it to bedtime—it’s real.
But here’s the thing: joy isn’t found in the big, life-changing moments. It’s in the small ones, the seemingly ordinary things that, when noticed, have the power to lift us up. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. I’m not about to tell you to start a daily meditation practice—though, as someone who loves meditating, even I struggle to sit still sometimes!
Instead, it’s about pausing—just for a moment—to notice the things that make you smile. Like stepping outside with your coffee and feeling the sun on your face. Your dog’s over-the-top enthusiasm when you walk through the door, as if you’ve returned from a year-long journey. The first sip of coffee that feels like a warm hug for your soul. The text from a friend that makes you laugh out loud. The sound of your child’s laughter—oh, that sweet, sweet laughter. The warmer days ahead, flowers blooming (minus the allergies, of course!).
These little moments? They matter. They fill our cup when life feels overwhelming. So today, I challenge you—find one tiny thing that brings you joy and truly soak it in.
“Happiness is not in another place, but this place… not for another hour, but this hour.” – Walt Whitman
