Have you ever been in the presence of someone who is in a foul mood and find it rubbing off on you? Maybe it’s not even someone you know. It’s some random person in front of you at the grocery store who is getting impatient and irritable because the person ahead of them is having trouble with their credit card. It’s crazy, right? I mean, it’s one thing to have someone you know and interact with (a spouse, friend, coworker) who is having a rough day rub their less than stellar mood all over you, but someone you don’t know? It just goes to show you how contagious any sort of energy is.
I have recently started using a snow globe analogy. You know, that glass globe that has some sort of scene in it and when you shake it snow or sparkles fall all around it? Sometimes it even plays music. Those are fun. Anyway, when you shake it, does the snow/glitter get all over the place? Nope. Because it’s contained within that glass globe. It never touches you. What if we envisioned other people’s bad moods like that? They stay contained in their own little globe. They don’t affect us at all. You can think, “Oh, that’s cute, you’re having a little tantrum in your little glass globe. Doesn’t bother me! Suckaaaaaa!”
It’s worth trying. You can also think of any of the fantasy and superhero movies that have force fields protecting their kingdoms. Shields against intruders and wrong doers. That’s what you’ve got. Your own protective forcefield. Let those negative ninnies stay in their glass globes.
“Negativity may knock at your door, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it in.”
