My husband and I have very specific roles in our household. From early on it was well established that he does all the cooking and I do all the laundry. And almost all the cleaning. But cooking and laundry — those are very clearly divided tasks. He likes to joke that he hasn’t done a load of laundry since we started living together and I like to joke that I haven’t cooked a single meal since that point. And we are both rather content (though to be clear, he loves cooking and I tolerate doing laundry, LOL).
After every load you put in the dryer, it is important that you clean the lint trap. Depending on what you are drying sometimes it can be a lot and sometimes it can just be just a little bit. If you forget, it will build up over time and just not be good. I don’t know how it will not be good, but I have just been told that I need to clear it after every session of use. I try to listen to what my mom has taught me.
It reminds me a lot of negative or non-productive thoughts. You have to clear them out. Daily. Sometimes they are tiny, and seem insignificant, but they build up. And when they do … watch out!
I have been watching my mental chatter like a hawk recently. It’s interesting to see how little bits of negativity still seep in, even as vigilant as I am. I have to continue scooping them up and tossing them in the trash. Just like lint. Because they don’t serve me.
“People often say motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing — that’s why we recommend it daily.”
~Zig Ziglar
There are some things we have to keep up with on a daily basis to feel “clean” and clear. At peace. Grounded. Whatever your word is.
What “lint” in your life do you need to clean out?
