Books of past lives

I have discovered that quarantined life leads to a lot of house projects. The joys of home ownership! We have had a few so far, one of which was not planned.

Enter: leaky toilet.

UGH.

This has been an ongoing problem that one brave plumber was willing to take on. It resulted in several large (i.e. expensive) holes in our living room ceiling and upstairs guest closet (who goes in there anyway?). Fun times. Fun times, indeed. My husband, a true sport and handyman, continued with his ongoing quest to perfect his dry walling skills. He did a marvelous job.

HOWEVER, the house project I am most excited about, is floor-to-almost-ceiling bookshelves in our basement. (I say almost because they don’t quite make it to the ceiling … ) When we bought this house over two years ago, my husband wanted a kitchen and I wanted a library.

He got his kitchen a year ago. We both love it.

And now, my day has finally come. Woohoo!

I am so excited.

The process has started. IKEA Billy bookshelves are ordered and we are creating space.

As in, unloading all the books from our mismatched bookshelves and temporarily relocating them.

Nearly 5000 steps later (thank you, Garmin!), I noticed something.
We both have many books. And many interests.

As I was unloading the collection of books I entered our marriage with, I felt like I was reliving all these past lives. Things I used to do.

Running books from my marathon days.

Triathlon books from my Ironman days.

Yoga books from my Yoga Teacher Training days.

Weightlifting books from my bodybuilding days.

Body/mind/psychology books from my Core Energetics Practitioner days.

And A LOT of metaphysical/spiritual/self-help/figuring myself out books.

Phew!

It was rather inspiring and disheartening at the same time.

There are certain things I wish I still kept up with.
[Yoga is a big one. That’s a post for another day…]

But what I realized was that all these things were important for where I was at that moment in my life. All I was doing was simply pursuing my interests. It changed me. And made me more clear on how I am.

Score!
