Don’t forget about self care

Like so many people, the reality of our world has me down a bit. Quite a bit. I’m reading, listening, educating myself, collecting resources, going down the rabbit hole of Netflix documentaries, docuseries, YouTube videos, interviews, lectures, etc. It’s A LOT. And it’s all incredibly heartbreaking. A lot of emotions come up. A lot of BIG emotions.

But at the end of the day, I still have to do what I need to do. I need to do my job. I need to teach live lessons, create videos for my students, do my grad school homework, practice the piano, attend to my family, friends, marriage … all the things.

What is going on in our world is important. And we are all soaking it in, processing it in our own way. But we still need to do what we need to do. And take care of ourselves in the process.

I listened to a recent podcast that reminded me of this.

Angela Davis addresses self care beautifully here

As you decide how to live your life and how you are going to impact the world, remember that you need to make sure that you have the energy to do those things.

Be gentle with yourself. You’re doing the best you can.

You were born to make an impact.

Remember to take care of yourself along the way.

And do what makes you happy.
